| Night at the Roxbury, A |

"I saw this movie for free and I still want a refund!"

I now know where Richard Grieco's career went. Down the shitter at the Roxbury!Anyone who has seen the SNL skit has basically seen the whole movie. There is no originality whatsoever. The movie itself seems to be one never ending skit parodying other movies such as Jerry Maguire and Who's That Girl. If you didn't get the who's that girl reference in the movie I'm proud of you. I'm saddened that I got it. And if you get to the theatre late don't worry, everything you've seen in previews is in the first 15 minutes so you won't miss anything at all.
So the story goes. Steve and Doug, two idiot clubhopping brothers, and I do mean idiot, have a dream. And this dream is to open the hottest nightclub in town because they can't get into the current hottest nightclub in town, The Roxbury, that is until they get into a little fender bender with, you guessed it, Richard Grieco. Playing himself, Greico offers to get the two bumbling morons into the Roxbury to make up for the mishap and because he doesn't want to get sued. In the nightclub they meet the owner and the owner's lackey (Colin Quinn, SNL reunion here we come). The story goes on, they get their nightclub yadda yadda yadda.
The ensuing quest is beset by Steve and Doug's father, who's name I can't get off the tip of my tongue right now, but he was one of Carla's husbands on Cheers, and also by the pursuit of Steve by Emily, the not so wholesome girl next door, played by yet another SNL veteran.
The film did have some interesting moments that made me chuckle despite its overall idiocy. One interesting moment that made me laugh, Steve and Doug's first sexual encounter with two girls who pick them up because they see Steve and Doug talking to the Roxbury owner and think they are rich, which lasts a whole 42 seconds.
Overall, my observation was that if you're a guy (I saw this movie with a handful of guys at the time, unfortunately I was the only girl, anyway), you'll love this movie even though you know it's ridiculous. Every guy who saw it with me was bobbing right along with the movie and cracking every joke they had just seen.
However, if you're a girl you'll want to run as fast as you can out of the theater.
Word of advise to guys: This is not a date movie.GET THAT DAMN SONG OUT OF MY HEAD ALREADY!
