The Border (1982) is on the list! It features Jack Nicholson's best performance and is must-see viewing for anyone who appreciates great acting. It'll be sinful to see this in widescreen finally; the cropped VHS versions have been godawful.

Well that was a list to drool for. There were at least 10 titles on the list that would be on mine as well. I was happy about that, but then as I started to look at my list, I got sad, thinking that how many movies have made it to DVD, there is still so long to go.

Here's my additions:

The Winslow Boy (1951) I hate to think that the atrocious recent remake might keep the classical original out of DVD forever. And while I'm on the subject of ruinous remakes, the recent one that may squeeze out:
Four Feathers In that greatest of filmdom's years 1939, one of the all time greats. And in color yet! Why isn't it on DVD?
By the way, thinking back to The Winslow Boy, how about an anthology of great Robert Donat films, Vacation From Marriage, The Citadel, The Count of Monte Cristo?
And what about Ronald Colman films, Prisoner of Zenda(1937) and Random Harvest?
Moving along, The Wedding Banquet and A Great Wall, two great Chinese American flicks.
No Highway in the Sky a real offbeat role for Jimmy Stewart.
A Woman Called Golda, Ingrid Bergman's last great role.
Chained an early Crawford-Gable flick, with Mickey Rooney's first screen appearence in a cameo role.
Far From the Madding Crowd Wide Screen! Sumptuous cinematography! Gorgeous Julie Cristie! Hello?
Other golden oldies: Madame Curie, The Hucksters, State of the Union, The Bride came C.O.D. and speaking of Bette Davis, All This and Heaven Too. And To Be or Not to Be not 1983, but the original 1942 with Jack Benny and Carol Lombard.
Don't forget the 50's and 60's, Raisin in the Sun where Sidney Poitier should have won the academy award, Hot Millions, The Hospital, George C. Scott in a rumbling bear perfomance in an acidly satiric Paddy Chayefsky screenplay, Long Day's Journey Into Night with the incomparable Katharine Hepburn and Ralph Richardson. And that reminds me that I forgot Kate's State of the Union with Spencer Tracy, Van Johnson and Angela Lansbury. AlsoMoby Dick the underrated 1956 film with an underrated Gregory Peck.
More recently, The Gods Must be Crazy, The Little Drummer Girl, Lorenzo's Oil, Heaven Can Wait
Even some good made for TV movies, The Good Doctor based on the Neil Simon takeoff on Chekov (sp?), Daddy, I Don't Like it here Like This a soapopera saved by Talia Shire's intereactions with her son, and Puddn'head Wilson, Ken Howard's excellent retelling of the Twain classic.
Last but not least, Fred Zinnemann's 1946 The Search, starring Montgomery Clift and Jarmila Novotna, a long time star with the Metropolitan Opera who was definitely no fat lady and who could act as well as she could sing, which was terrific.

So pray with me guys, that these and more come to DVD.
